Pillow Talk

Hello friends!  How is everyone doing? Have you all finished Marie Kondo’ing the heck out of every corner of your home?  I must admit its very cathartic to look at those perfectly folded t-shirts in your drawers when you pull them open to get dressed. Now that we’ve taken care of our OCD, let’s talk about bedrooms.  Always the last place to get some attention- from a decorating standpoint that is….

Here are the basics when it comes to comfort and style in your bedroom.  First is a good comfortable mattress and bed frame, storage pieces for clothing, bright bedside lighting for reading, a cozy chair, and lots of soft elements to absorb sound and create warmth such as drapery, area rugs, toss cushions and really, really good quality sheets.

HW has just introduced a new line of 400 thread count, CANADIAN made, organic cotton sheets from White Terry Home.  Not only are they super soft and chemical-free, they have labels indicating the size of the bedding (perfect for storage), along with directional arrows on the fitted sheet so you know which way to place it on your mattress- GENIUS!  Available in 4 colours from white to dark grey and beautifully packaged, I’m telling you people, you need these sheets in your life- they are amazing!

As Designers we always have our favourite go-to furniture pieces .  For bedrooms, it’s the Geovin Soho collection.  Again, Canadian made, solid wood construction, clean lines and available in a variety of both stains and painted finishes.  The Soho is so versatile- you can change up the colour of the drawer fronts or the frame, with painted drawers and a stained frame, or vice versa.  And the selection of hardware is beautiful.

We like to pair the Soho with an upholstered bed frame like the classic Chelsea tufted bed, or the more tailored Monaco bed. Both of these beds are available in all sizes and loads of fabrics, and can be customized with beautiful details like welt edges and nailhead options.  Most of these pieces are here in our showroom, so come in and check them out!

Which brings me to the soft stuff- particularly all the new rug samples HW has received lately. Beautiful soft, vintage patterns, and textured nubby wool rugs from Dash & Albert and Loloi that will complete your bedroom’s colour story and elevate the cozy factor.  And here’s tip for rug sizes in a bedroom- the rule of thumb for a queen size bed is to use an 8 x 10 ft rug underneath the bed, and a 9 x 12 ft rug for a king size bed.

Now tell me this doesn’t inspire you to give your bedroom some much needed love and attention this spring.
